Have you ever thought about the difference between truth and honesty? Truth sounds something like this:  “Mom, there is nobody in my bedroom.”

Honesty, however, adds more context to the situation.  It sounds like this:  “Mom, there is nobody in my bedroom, but the person you think I’m hiding is in my brother’s closet.”

Many of us strive to be truthful.  It helps to eliminate the icky feeling that arises when we are being deceitful. Yet sometimes, in an attempt to make things better, or less awkward, we can marginalize the truth. So the next time you are tempted to utter a little white lie, consider whether you are truly being honest in the larger context of things, and whether the whole truth, even if painful, might help you better address the greater issue at hand.

After all, the truth may set you free (temporarily), but honesty is often the best path toward true liberation.

Enjoy your week,

Dawn
