Today we will elect our next President. Which makes it a great day to reflect on the need for leadership and what makes a leader effective. Is it politics or presence? Principles or vision?  The ability to lead a group of people toward a common goal, or the skill to negotiate a desired outcome based on diverse agendas?

Leadership is all these traits and more. Great leaders bring out the best in others. They challenge our fears and ask us to rise to our potential. They hold a vision of what the world can be like if we dig deeper, not into our smallness but into our greatness. And, great leaders encourage us to dream, innovate, and ignite passion to move through obstacles that diminish us as a person, a state and a nation.

Today, the greatest leader is the one you have inside of you.  So when you cast your vote remember to also elect yourself into service.  Not one presidential candidate, nor their administration, will be able to manage the challenges in our world.  We all need to be leaders, of good character, helping to bring forth the best in ourselves and others.

Now go out and vote!
