I have a colleague who recently told me she was trying to find her purpose. She also shared that last year she was asked to chair a board for a hospice that has grown exponentially under her leadership. I asked why she didn’t see that as a purpose. She quickly dismissed her efforts and said, “No, that’s too easy.”

It should be easy. Purpose is the by-product of developing our natural gifts and giving them generously. Whether it’s helping people organize themselves, caring for others, or solving difficult problems, people in need of our gifts will find us. We don’t need to waste time seeking.

Instead of looking for a purpose, ask yourself where you are already giving. What do you do that feels effortless? Embrace the positive impact you have on others, and if you have capacity, offer more.

Dawn, your post today was what I needed. Your book The Invitation also touches on this. I read it this wkend and am still thinking about the different truths that made so much sense to me. I felt like I was in the book with the girls on their journey. I need to stop beating myself up and feeling less than. I will focus on what I do best and accept it and appreciate it and work on it. Thank you dear friend. Your words have made such an impact on my day to day life.
    Lots of love,
    Joanne

Love. Thank you. Though I’m still seeking that which I do so effortlessly. Perhaps my glasses are just foggy and a clean wipe will show me I’m right where I’m supposed to be.
I,too, absolutely loved your book The Invitation. Touched my soul. Couldn’t put it down even in the wee hours of morning.
Thanks for being an inspiration. Taking risks and putting yourself out there. Peace, Love, Blessings!
