The other night, I was standing with a group who were sharing their goals for the New Year. Aspirations like going back for a master’s degree, writing a book, adopting a baby, and losing thirty pounds were all shared. The group then turned to the most unassuming member who confidently shared that her goal for 2016 was to…”not purchase a bottle of wine for more than twenty-five dollars.”

I still laugh at the thought. Granted it’s a first world aspiration but what I love about it was its simplicity. Goals are a great way to keep us focused but let’s not forget that the purpose of life is to live it. To enjoy simple pleasures too. To keep our feet firmly on the ground as we reach for the stars.

I left that night with my lofty goal in hand thinking a good bottle of wine for under twenty-five dollars might not be a bad bar to crawl under. If nothing more, it felt less stressful than the one I had created.

Would love to hear your aspirations for 2016. Or, wine recommendations for under twenty-five dollars.
